About IF4IT

The International Foundation for Information Technology (IF4IT), LLC is an independent organization dedicated to advancing practical, reusable guidance for enterprise technology strategy, architecture, and delivery.

We focus on turning hard-earned experience into actionable best practices, frameworks, and reference content that organizations can apply immediately — with full responsibility for validation and implementation resting with the reader’s organization.

Leadership

IF4IT was founded in 2008 by Frank Guerino, who serves as the Founder and a primary author of IF4IT best-practices and reference material.

Frank holds a B.S.E.E. from the New Jersey Institute of Technology (1988) and served as Chair of the IEEE student chapter at NJIT (1987–1988). Before moving into IT management and advisory work, he spent more than a decade designing advanced communications systems, integrated circuits (ICs), and HDL-based compilation, simulation, emulation, and manufacturing software tools for IC development, including foundry libraries used in verification and manufacturing for some of the most well-known IC foundaries in the world.

In 1998, Frank moved from semiconductor and IC engineering design and leadership into enterprise software design and development for leading global financial services firms, where he later advanced into IT leadership roles.

He has since designed, built, scaled, and operated software engineering and enterprise architecture organizations — both as an employee and as an advisor to IT leaders at numerous Fortune 500 and midsized companies — in roles spanning IT leadership, enterprise architecture, software engineering, and technology governance. He founded IF4IT in 2008 to help identify, document, publish, and share open and reusable industry guidance drawn from the experiences of IT industry leaders, managers, and practitioners.

Frank’s ongoing interests include the design, synthesis, and application of large-scale semantic knowledge graphs and models (from enterprise data) that AI systems can traverse and reason over to help solve complex knowledge management problems. He is also a published author on these topics, and such ideas show up in IF4IT-published content and in the design of the site itself.

Editorial standards and review

IF4IT content is intended to be accurate, actionable, and durable — not marketing copy or vendor advocacy. Our editorial standards include:

  • Plain language — recommendations readable by both executives and practitioners
  • Structured guidance — best practices stated as imperative recommendations, not vague principles
  • Scope honesty — we describe what the guidance covers, what it assumes, and what remains the implementer’s responsibility
  • Periodic review — major documents are reviewed when underlying practice shifts (for example, AI governance, inventory stewardship, or portfolio management methods)

Material marked as draft or in progress is not published on the public site until it meets these standards.

Authorship and contributor model

  • Core best practices and inventory reference documents — authored and maintained by IF4IT under the IF4IT editorial process
  • Articles — may republish or adapt material from IF4IT best practices; some articles credit individual authors where applicable
  • External contributors — we welcome constructive input for new ideas and improvements from practitioners and leaders; proposed changes are reviewed for clarity, accuracy, and fit with IF4IT scope before inclusion

We do not accept paid placement, undisclosed sponsorship, or content written primarily to promote a vendor product or service.

How IF4IT guidance is developed

IF4IT material is distilled from decades of hands-on IT leadership, architecture, and governance experience across large enterprises. Our development approach:

  1. Identify recurring problems — patterns that appear across industries, not one-off project anecdotes
  2. Document structured guidance — imperative best-practice statements, frameworks, and inventory taxonomies that practitioners can apply directly
  3. Review for clarity and applicability — prose is edited for plain language, internal consistency, and actionable recommendations
  4. Publish openly — no paywall; guidance is intended for reuse inside your organization with appropriate validation for your context
