Regulatory Agencies Inventory and Attributes
Governance attributes for the Regulatory Agencies Inventory
Governance attributes document the review cadence and monitoring approach governing each regulatory relationship — ensuring the enterprise maintains awareness of regulatory changes proportional to the agency’s compliance priority.
| Attribute Name | Maturity | Description and Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Review Cadence | Walk | Description — How often this agency record is formally reviewed — confirming active status, updated contact information, current enforcement posture, and pending requirement changes. Benefit(s) — Ensures governance attention is proportional to agency importance and rate of regulatory change. Data protection authorities in active enforcement phases warrant quarterly review; inactive standards bodies may warrant annual review. Source — Manual. Examples — Monthly, Quarterly, Semi-Annual, Annual Notes — Recommended minimum: Quarterly for Critical compliance priority agencies; Semi-Annual for High; Annual for Medium and Low. Event-driven review is required regardless of scheduled cadence when the agency issues new regulations, initiates a significant enforcement action, or undergoes leadership change. |
Monitoring Approach [Multi-Value] | Walk | Description — How the enterprise monitors this agency for new regulations, guidance updates, enforcement actions, and requirement changes. Benefit(s) — Documents the surveillance strategy for each regulatory relationship. Ensures that regulatory changes are captured systematically rather than discovered after the fact. Different agencies warrant different monitoring investment based on their rate of change and the enterprise’s compliance exposure. Source — Manual. Examples — Automated Feed (regulatory intelligence platform subscription); Legal Counsel Alerts; Agency RSS / Email Subscription; External News Monitoring; Manual Periodic Review; External Law Firm Monitoring Service Notes — Separate multiple values with semicolons. For Critical priority agencies, at least one real-time or near-real-time monitoring mechanism should be in place. |
