The International Foundation for Information Technology (IF4IT) Among Other Best Practices Frameworks and Standards Bodies

Every experienced Information Technology Management (ITM) professional understands that no standards body or best practices framework is complete. Every organization working to advance the practice of Information Technology — including IF4IT — publishes from a specific perspective, with specific priorities, and with the knowledge and resources available at the time. Gaps, ambiguities, and evolving interpretations are inevitable in any body of work, including our own.

IF4IT does not position itself as a replacement for ITIL, COBIT, TOGAF, PMI, or any other established framework or standards body. We hold those organizations in high regard and consider them peers in the broader effort to advance the IT profession. They have built substantial, valuable bodies of work, and the practitioners and organizations who rely on them are well served by doing so.

Our goal is simply to contribute vendor-neutral guidance in areas where practitioners tell us they need more clarity — and to make that guidance as practical, direct, and accessible as possible.

We encourage readers to treat IF4IT as one resource among many. Combine our materials with whatever frameworks, guidance, and experience serve your organization and your team best. Consult multiple sources. Question everything, including us. The goal is better outcomes for you, for the people you lead, and for the organizations you serve — not loyalty to any single source.
